For this sequence, the computer virus takes control of the
power company and causes short circuits all over town.
We set up a BMW with a 12" car cannon for the
explosion at the gas station.

First, we cut a telephone pole to fit inside the cannon...

Then, Pyrotechnic Supervisor Jeff Marsh and Special Effects
rigger Bob Gleason, built some black powder bombs...

The bomb, ready to be finished and put into the cannon...

To add a bit more fire to the sequence, we welded a flame projector
mortar under the hood and filled it with a gas bomb...

The car is loaded and ready as Jeff Marsh makes a last minute check...
Parked in the parking lot of Delfino Studios in Sylmar...
the BMW has to blow up, and flip over... landing on the same spot!
If it doesn't, we may have to pay for a soundstage!

The telephone booth shorts out, sending sparks toward the gas station...
